Energy Security and Energy Education  in the  Era of Hybrid Threats

Abstract

Energy Security is at the center of current global geopolitical discussions.  This presentation addresses two dimensions that must be part of these discussions, namely Energy Security in the  Era of Hybrid Threats and Energy Education

The presentation provides information on the work done under NATO SAS-163 (“Energy Security in the  Era of Hybrid Threats”), the purposes of which are to

  • Raise awareness of the energy-hybrid warfare nexus by understanding its component parts.
  • Identify the broader impact of the energy-hybrid warfare nexus in the civilian and military realms.
  • Define courses of action to mitigate the impact on civilian and military infrastructure and interests and develop countermeasures, including mitigating the impact on civilian and military infrastructure and interests, and developing countermeasures

The presentation also provides an overview of the  Energy Education curricula being developed at the Naval Postgraduate School.  These curricula will  provide foundational knowledge and experience for warfighters, including uniquely relevant defense examples and applications in: Alternative fuels and applications; Persistent autonomous systems; and Impacts of climate and environment change on energy.
